Massive Youth Participation in Workshop on “Sustainable Development and Youth Empowerment through Constitutional Values” at Savitribai Phule Pune University
Pune, — The Department of Education and Extension, Nation Building, School of Education, Savitribai Phule Pune University, successfully organized a thought-provoking workshop on the theme “Sustainable Development and Youth Empowerment in the Light of Constitutional Values.” The event witnessed an enthusiastic response from the youth and featured prominent experts from various domains who shared insights on constitutional literacy, sustainable development, and career opportunities in the green sector.

Inaugurating the workshop, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar emphasized the need to focus on environmental concerns such as water quality, pollution, and climate change. He stated that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should serve as guiding principles for addressing these challenges.
Renowned International EPD expert and entrepreneur Mrs. Aarti Sagar Ahivale, founder of Greennex Environmental, enlightened the participants on reducing human and environmental carbon footprints. She highlighted innovative green solutions and how her company contributes to mitigating plastic, air, noise, and water pollution. Mr. Sagar Ahivale, an entrepreneur in the green sector, also introduced students to diverse career paths, market trends, and emerging job opportunities in environmental industries.

Mr. Parth, Deputy Editor of The Indian Express, expressed deep concern over the rising global temperatures and the effects of unchecked urbanization. He called for urgent action on sustainable development to secure the future of urban and rural communities alike.
Professor Dr. Anjali Kurane provided an anthropological perspective through the lens of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s research. Dr. Sangeeta Salve shared the inspiring social work undertaken by the Dr. Tanaji Salve Social Foundation, which supports educational opportunities for students from marginalized and underserved communities. She urged the youth to promote constitutional awareness and human values at both college and village levels, echoing Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy of “Pay Back to Society.”

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Director of the School of Education, reflected on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s prophetic insights from “States and Minorities” and his final speech in the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949. Dr. Adhav expressed concern about the increasing social and economic inequalities, as well as the erosion of constitutional morality, despite the democratic achievements enshrined in the Constitution.
