President Appoints Prof. Shahid Akhtar as Member of Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University

The President of India has appointed Professor Shahid Akhtar as a Member of the Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The appointment will be effective from 19 January 2026 and will remain valid for a term of three years.
With this appointment, Prof. Akhtar becomes one of the nominated members of the Executive Council, the university’s highest decision-making body responsible for policy formulation, administration, and governance matters of AMU.
Prof. Shahid Akhtar is a distinguished academician and educationist. Prior to this appointment, he has held several important positions, including Chairman of the Jharkhand Minority Commission and Vice-Chairman of the National Council for Urdu Language Development (NCUL). His academic and administrative experience has been widely recognized at both state and national levels.
As a member of the Executive Council, Prof. Akhtar is expected to play a significant role in shaping the university’s academic, administrative, and developmental policies, contributing to the overall progress and governance of Aligarh Muslim University.
The academic community has welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Prof. Akhtar’s expertise and leadership will strengthen AMU’s institutional framework and educational mission.
