Phule Wada has long served as a powerful center for social movements and progressive thought, stated Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Savitribai Phule Pune University, while addressing a gathering at Phule Wada, Pune. He highlighted that social reformers Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule courageously challenged the oppressive caste system and laid the foundation for social equality by opening the doors of education to women and the oppressed sections of society through the establishment of the first school for women and the so-called untouchables in Pune.

Prof. Dr. Adhav further noted that the legacy of the Phules’ struggle for social justice was strengthened and carried forward by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, who ensured equal rights and social justice for all citizens through constitutional provisions.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, floral tributes were offered to the busts of Savitribai Phule and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at the memorial in Phule Wada by senior social activist Thakaji Baba Gaikwad.
The event was attended by senior leaders and activists of the Ambedkarite movement, including Vasantrao Salve, Ankal Sonawane, Thakaji Baba Gaikwad, Dr. Prem Hanwate, Dr. Amrapali, Dr. Mai Bele, Kashyapada Salunkhe (son of late MP Balasaheb Salunkhe), Mahanandatai Dalimbe, Panchsheelatai Kumbharkar, Rajendra Kamble, Sudhir Kamble, Rajesh Rajge, Ramesh Telawade, Sunil Kamble, Sudhakar Bhalerao, Balburaj Naiknavare, Ramdas Lokhande, and Suvarnatai Nadgham, along with dignitaries from various fields and a large number of activists associated with the Phule–Shahu–Ambedkar–Annabhau movement.
