Financial Literacy Program Bridges the Gap Between Education and Practical Knowledge

With the objective of enhancing financial awareness and practical economic understanding among students, a special Financial Literacy program was jointly organized by the Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Ganeshkhind, Pune, and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

The program aimed at bridging the gap between formal education and real-life financial knowledge, empowering students with essential skills related to financial planning, insurance, and economic security.

College Principal Dr. Sanjay Kharat extended his best wishes to the initiative and emphasized the growing importance of financial literacy in today’s dynamic economic environment. He highlighted that students equipped with financial knowledge are better prepared to make informed decisions and secure their future.

The keynote guidance was delivered by Dr. Vilas Adhav, Director and Head of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Savitribai Phule Pune University. Addressing the participants, Dr. Adhav stated that such collaborative initiatives between colleges and universities play a crucial role in connecting academic learning with practical societal needs. He emphasized that financial literacy enables individuals to plan effectively, improve their purchasing power, and achieve long-term financial stability, thereby contributing to overall social development.
The program featured two insightful technical sessions.
In the first session, Rohan Ghod, Regional Head, Bajaj Life Insurance, F.C. Road, Pune, explained the relevance and necessity of life insurance in the present socio-economic scenario. He elaborated on how insurance acts as a critical tool for financial protection and security.
The second session was conducted by Nehal Pawar, Senior Manager, Bajaj Life Insurance, who guided students on the basic principles of insurance, risk management, and also highlighted career opportunities in the insurance and financial services sector.
The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students, who gained valuable insights into financial planning, insurance awareness, financial security, and career prospects in the financial domain.
The event was smoothly compered by Ms. Sharanya Chakraborty, Ms. Aarti Saitwadkar, and Ms. Shraddha Wavhal. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Program Coordinator, Dr. Abasaheb Shinde.
Special efforts for the successful organization of the program were taken by Deputy Principal Dr. Jyoti Gagangras, Head of the Economics Department Dr. Namdev Doke, Dr. Shili John, Savishikre B.G., and Juhi Dange.
The program concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of financial literacy as a foundation for informed citizenship, personal security, and sustainable economic growth.
