Pune, June 2025:
Prof. (Dr) Shahid Akhtar, Executive Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), Government of India, conducted a high-level review meeting with key education and administrative stakeholders at the VIP Circuit House Conference Room, Pune.

The meeting was attended by the District Development Commissioner (DDC), District Education Officers (Primary and Secondary), senior district officials, representatives from minority educational institutions, and leaders from various religious minority communities. The agenda focused on reviewing the status of minority education in the region and ensuring the effective implementation of constitutional and policy provisions.

Prof. Dr. Akhtar reiterated the importance of Article 30(1) of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees minorities the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice. He urged all officials and stakeholders to uphold and protect these rights proactively.

A key directive issued by Dr. Akhtar was the filling of all vacant teaching and administrative positions in minority educational institutions within three months. Emphasizing the role of education in empowering minority communities, he instructed the District Education Department to prioritize this action without delay.

In alignment with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr. Akhtar encouraged minority institutions to embrace reforms such as multilingual education, skill development, digital inclusion, and holistic student development. He also called for the organization of regular seminars and workshops to create awareness about minority rights and constitutional safeguards among educators, administrators, and community members.
