Poona College of Arts Science and Commerce is a well known educational institution of Pune. It always encourages all kinds of academic and especially literary activities. Yesterday, on 14/07/2021 Principal Prof. Aftab Anwar Shaikh released a book on Persian Language and literature entitled “AAINA-I-ADABIYAT-I-FARSI” authored by Mr. Jawed Akhtar, Assistant Professor of the Department of Urdu, Arabic and Persian, Poona College. Expressing his views on this occasion Prof. Anwar said that works like this that too in a foreign language should not be confined to a college or city or a state but it should reach broader audience especially literary institutions and academies all over India. Mr. Khan Moinuddin, Vice Principal and HoD Urdu, Arabic and Persian threw light on the salient features of the book and said that more works like this are expected from the Department in the days to come. Mr. Iqbal Shaikh, Vice Principal and HoD Chemistry congratulated the author and expressed his praise. Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Baba Shaikh Assistant Prof. Department of Hindi, Mr. Jawed Akhtar (the Author), Ms. Khan Nasrin HoD Commerce and others.
About The Book
The book entitled “AAINA-I-ADABIYAT-I-FARSI” is a selective collection of some of the well known texts in the language. This book is a blend of classical as well as modern Persian prose and poetry. The author while mentioning the selected pieces of Prose and poetry has also given a comprehensive introduction of the eminent writers and poets of Persian literature. The book also comprises detailed introduction of some of the famous prose books of Persian literature. Besides this the author has taken extra care to include some other important and necessary information about Persian language and literature such as Rhetoric, Poetic terms and Modern Persian prose terms.
It is worth mentioning that the book has been selected as text book for SYBA Persian syllabus of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
About the Author
Jawed Akhtar is an Assistant Professor of Persian in AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce Pune. He did his B.A., M.A. and M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has also qualified for JRF in Persian. He has presented papers in various national and international conferences and seminar and has published a number of and articles in different journals and magazines. Besides this book, he has also edited five books (Nubuwat e Muhammadia, Pawitra Jiwan, Pak Damani, Antim Eishdoot Muhammad PBUH, Dosti aur Dushmani ka Qurani Meyar) and translated one book from Arabic into Urdu (Ammatul Muslimin ke Liye Kuch Aham Asbaq).
