Mumbai, [Insert Date] – In a landmark initiative to strengthen the rights and roles of minority educational institutions in India, Prof. (Dr.) Shahid Akhtar, Member of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), Government of India, presided as the Chief Guest at a high-impact workshop titled “Empowering Minority Education: Minorities’ Rights under Article 30 of the Indian Constitution.” The event was organized at Anjuman-I-Islam’s Saif Tyabji Auditorium, Mumbai, drawing a significant audience and institutional representation.

Held for the first time in Mumbai under the directive of the NCMEI, this 360-degree workshop marked a significant milestone, bringing together all three key stakeholders in the minority education ecosystem — NCMEI officials, government representatives from Maharashtra, and leaders from over 400 minority educational institutions.

The workshop fostered extensive discussions on the challenges, constitutional rights, and policy frameworks relevant to Article 30, which safeguards the rights of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice. The interactive sessions witnessed active participation from state and district officials, educational leaders, and civil society members, all of whom reiterated their commitment to nation-building through inclusive and equitable education.

The event was presided over by Padma Awardee 2024, Dr. Zahir I. Kazi, President of Anjuman-I-Islam, Mumbai, who emphasized the pivotal role of minority institutions in preserving diversity and democratic values through education.

Smt. Aanchal Goyal (I.A.S), District Magistrate, Mumbai, graced the occasion as the Special Guest, highlighting the state’s initiatives in supporting educational development for minority communities and encouraging continuous engagement between stakeholders.
The workshop concluded with a collective resolve from all participants — NCMEI, state authorities, and institutional leaders — to conduct regular awareness workshops, seminars, and collaborative forums across the state and country to sensitize and empower stakeholders on the constitutional provisions under Article 30.
