Hand Washing With Soap (HWWS), an initiative with Save the Children's Hygiene and Behaviour Change Coalition (HBCC) project
The NCC unit of Poona College of Arts Science and Commerce, Camp, Pune and Muskaan: The Healing smile and Save the Children NGO jointly organized a program joint project highlighting the importance of washing hands amongst Street Children along with soap and masks distribution on 7 July 2021 near Golibar Maidan. The program aimed at highlighting the importance of washing hands, especially in the current scenario to reduce the chances of contracting disease. Soap and Masks were donated by Save the Children NGO.
Hand washing with soap (HWWS) is an initiative with Save the Children’s Hygiene and Behaviour Change Coalition (HBCC) project. Save the Children – Bal Raksha Bharat has launched a hand wash project with mothers and children to prevent corona infections. The benefits of hand washing with soap and the importance of washing hands with soap to prevent corona and other infectious diseases are being explained to the street children. Awareness is being spread by distributing soaps and masks and awareness about why to use masks, wash hands, keeping a distance and control corona infections during this COVID 19 Pandemic.
Hand hygiene is the cornerstone of infection control and it reduces the rates of infections, it is essential to highlight the same to the poor street children who are without masks or any other protection during the COVID times. Principal, Prof. Aftab Anwar Shaikh initiated this program with the help of the NCC unit headed by lieutenant Dr. Shakir Shaikh, and Muskaan: The Healing smile, (Social initiative of Poona College) in association with the NGO SAVE THE CHILDREN.
NCC Cadets, Poona College Alumni and Police Mitra member Mr. Mayuresh Jadhav and the team of Save the Children NGO taught the children the right way of washing hands and created an awareness about the importance of washing hands.
The NCC students along with Muskaan Volunteers distributed soaps and masks to the street children near Golibar Maidan. Principal Prof. Aftab Anwar, Lieutenant Dr. Shakir Shaikh, Dr. Baba Shaikh, Teacher-Volunteers of Muskaan: The Healing Smile, Dr. Shirin Shaikh and Dr. Shabana Mulla and Save the Children NGO Members Cluster Coordinator Mr. Rohit Jagtap, Ms. Jivika Chavan, Anamika Utekar and District Coordinator Ms. Dipti Hajari were also present in this awareness program.
