\u2018Breathable Art\u2019 inaugurated in Delhi \u2013 an Innovative, Living Structure created using Air purifying Plants and Sustainable Materials while fostering Awareness on Air Quality and Sustainable Living<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Joint Secretary,\u00a0 Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ms. Nameeta Prasad, inaugurated\u00a0\u2018<\/em>Breathable Art\u2019 today\u00a0at Swarn Jayanti Park, Rohini. The installation of this art was\u00a0sponsored by the MoEFCC\u00a0and support for the same was provided by\u00a0the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)\u00a0and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).\u00a0The initiative is part of the\u00a0\u2018Breath of Change \u2013 Clean Air, Blue Skies\u2019\u00a0campaign held under the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP)\u00a0of the Environment Education, Awareness, Research and Skill Development (EEARSD) Scheme.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Breathable Art\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is an innovative, living structure \u2014 created using air-purifying plants and sustainable materials \u2014 which would serve as an interactive public engagement installation to raise awareness on air pollution and promote sustainable urban living. Through QR-code\u2013enabled educational content, visitors can learn about the plants\u2019 physiological features and their role in purifying the air. Ultimately,\u00a0\u2018Breathable Art\u2019<\/em>\u00a0embodies the vision of a greener, more breathable Delhi, where art and nature coexist to remind every citizen that sustainability begins with a single breath.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Given the persistent air quality challenges in Delhi, this installation provides a natural, passive solution while also enhancing urban green spaces. The structure is envisioned to serve as:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0An Educational Hub\u00a0for students, eco-clubs, and local residents.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A Community Initiative\u00a0involving RWAs, schools, colleges, municipal bodies, and volunteers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A Strategic Intervention\u00a0in air pollution hotspots, with long-term maintenance in collaboration with civic bodies and local groups.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Expected outcomes of this installation include increased environmental awareness, wider adoption of eco-friendly lifestyles, and the transformation of urban spaces through nature-based solutions \u2014 establishing a flagship model for clean air awareness in Delhi.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The air-purifying plants used in \u2018Breathable Art\u2019<\/em>\u00a0include Areca palm, bamboo palm, money plant, snake plant, spider plant, parijat, peace lily, arrowhead, weeping fig, and zigzag plant. These species are known for removing common outdoor pollutants such as formaldehyde and benzene, regulating humidity levels, and improving air quality \u2014 especially beneficial during dry winter months when respiratory discomfort is common.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u2018Breathable Art\u2019<\/em>\u00a0installation stands as a creative and meaningful step toward promoting sustainable urban living and environmental consciousness. By combining the aesthetic appeal of art with the natural air-purifying power of plants, it transforms public spaces into living symbols of ecological balance. This innovative initiative demonstrates how nature-based, participatory solutions can inspire awareness, nurture community involvement, and encourage behavioral change for cleaner air and healthier cities.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
