“Military Is the Soul of the Nation\u2019s Resilience,” Says Major General Sumit Rana at IIM Rohtak<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Rohtak, Haryana \u2013 The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak recently hosted an inspiring session titled \u201cThe Role of Armed Forces in Nation Building\u201d<\/em>, delivered by Major General Sumit Rana, General Officer Commanding, Pashchim Uttar Pradesh Sub Area. The session brought to light the Armed Forces’ invaluable contribution to India’s unity, welfare, and holistic development beyond their battlefield duties.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The event began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, Director of IIM Rohtak. He spoke about the military\u2019s role in shaping a strong, cohesive, and resilient India, emphasizing the importance of honouring national heroes and learning from their leadership, valor, and sacrifices. Drawing from his own interactions with senior military officials, Prof. Sharma underscored the exemplary courage and patriotism embodied by the Indian Armed Forces.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Addressing a packed audience of nearly 300 students, faculty members, and deans, Major General Sumit Rana delivered a powerful talk. He highlighted that the role of the military extends far beyond conventional combat. From nation-building and humanitarian efforts to environmental conservation and educational outreach, the Indian Army remains deeply integrated into the fabric of the country\u2019s progress.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Citing historical operations, such as Operation Cactus (1988) and recent rescue missions during the Ukraine conflict, Major General Rana outlined how the Army has consistently served as first responders in national and international crises. He also showcased how the Army organizes medical and veterinary camps in remote regions, supports community welfare, and promotes livelihoods.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Of particular note were initiatives supporting children affected by conflict in Manipur and Kashmir, where Armed Forces-led education programs have enabled students to clear competitive exams like NEET and JEE. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) was also praised for instilling discipline, leadership, and patriotism among India\u2019s youth.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In the realm of environmental sustainability, the Army\u2019s efforts in afforestation, water conservation, and Ecological Task Forces, including the Ganga Task Force, were highlighted. Major General Rana also spotlighted the Army\u2019s contribution to the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, stating that over 3,000 defence startups have been incubated since 2017 in collaboration with IITs, DRDO, and private firms\u2014contributing an estimated \u20b925,000 crores to the Indian economy.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

He concluded his address by sharing a powerful life mantra \u2014 D\u00b2C\u00b2 \u2014 Dream, Discipline, Conviction, and Commitment<\/em>, which he described as the core values of the Armed Forces and a guiding philosophy for every citizen.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In his vote of thanks, Prof. Sharma reiterated how the Army\u2019s ethos of self-discipline and service can bridge the gap between one’s ideal and actual self. Quoting Robert Frost, he commended the military for its calm resolve and inner strength in the face of adversity, encouraging the youth to adopt similar resilience and determination in their lives.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
