{"id":4249,"date":"2025-05-21T12:17:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theeducationoverview.in\/?p=4249"},"modified":"2025-05-21T12:17:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:47:35","slug":"rajon-ki-baoli-restored-by-archaeological-survey-of-india-in-collaboration-with-wmfi-and-tcs-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theeducationoverview.in\/?p=4249","title":{"rendered":"Rajon ki Baoli Restored by Archaeological Survey of India in Collaboration with WMFI and TCS Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"text-center event-heading-background\">\n<h2 id=\"Titleh2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Rajon ki Baoli Restored by Archaeological Survey of India in Collaboration with WMFI and TCS Foundation<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"PrDateTime\" class=\"ReleaseDateSubHeaddateTime text-center pt20\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Posted On: 16 MAY 2025 5:42PM by PIB Delhi<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"pt20\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>In a significant step toward protecting India\u2019s cultural and environmental heritage, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in collaboration with the World Monuments Fund India (WMFI) and the TCS Foundation, has successfully completed the conservation work of Rajon ki Baoli, a 16<sup>th<\/sup>&#8211; century stepwell, located in Mehrauli Archaeological Park, New Delhi.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image001BD0E.jpg\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>This project was a part of WMFI\u2019s Historic Water Systems of India initiative, funded by the TCS Foundation, aligning with the World Monuments Fund\u2019s Climate Heritage Initiative.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image002I7IS.jpg\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>It highlights the importance of restoring traditional water systems as sustainable solutions for water management in the face of climate change.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Under ASI\u2019s supervision, the restoration work included cleaning, desilting, structural repair, and water quality improvements, using traditional materials and techniques.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>The baoli was cleaned, desilted, and connected to proper drainage systems. Fish were introduced to help maintain water quality. Traditional materials like lime plaster and mortar were used to preserve the original character of the structure. The restoration was guided by historical records to retain the site&#8217;s Lodi-era authenticity.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>In addition to the restoration, the ASI and its partners engaged local communities to promote awareness of the Baoli\u2019s cultural and ecological value. Educational programs and participatory conservation activities were designed to ensure the site\u2019s long-term care.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Built around 1506 during the Lodi dynasty, Rajon ki Baoli stands as a testament to Lodhi-era architecture and traditional water engineering. This four-tiered stepwell was thoughtfully designed not only to store water but also to offer shade and rest to travellers. Its elegant arched colonnades,\u00a0ornate stucco medallions with floral and geometric patterns, and finely carved stone elements reflect the artistic sophistication of the time.
