This landmark event is a pivotal initiative under the\u00a0<strong>Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan<\/strong>, aimed at addressing the critical health and well-being challenges faced by India\u2019s tribal communities.<\/p>\n<p>Following the conclave, a\u00a0<strong>National Level Training of Trainers (ToT)<\/strong>\u00a0program on awareness generation and counseling for\u00a0<strong>Sickle Cell Anaemia<\/strong>\u00a0was conducted on\u00a0<strong>January 21\u201322, 2025<\/strong>, at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, as part of efforts to eliminate the disease by 2047.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s tribal communities often face unique healthcare challenges due to geographical isolation, socio-economic vulnerabilities, and deeply rooted cultural traditions. These factors contribute to significant disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, requiring specialized attention and solutions.<\/p>\n<p>In response to these challenges, the Government of India has undertaken several transformative steps. Among these is the launch of the\u00a0<strong>National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission<\/strong>\u00a0by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi targeting the eradication of sickle cell anaemia by 2047. Complementing this mission, the MoTA has introduced several initiatives under the DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan to ensure holistic health and well-being in tribal regions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Efforts and Initiatives in Tribal Healthcare:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MoTA, in collaboration with MoH&amp;FW, AIIMS, and other stakeholders, has launched several initiatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bhagwan Birsa Munda Chair of Tribal Health and Haematology<\/strong>: Established at AIIMS Delhi, this chair serves as a multi-disciplinary platform for research and data collection on tribal health.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Centres of Competence (CoC)<\/strong>: 15 CoCs have been sanctioned in 14 states to enable advanced and prenatal diagnosis of sickle cell anemia, a prevalent genetic condition in tribal populations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaborative Approach<\/strong>: The MoTA is working closely with MoH&amp;FW, MoAYUSH, MoWCD, NHM, AIIMSs, CoCs, ICMR, UN agencies, NGOs, and state tribal welfare departments to ensure effective healthcare delivery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>National Tribal Health Conclave 2025<\/strong>\u00a0 brought together key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, AYUSH, Social Justice and Empowerment, senior state government officials, NHM representatives, AIIMS directors, tribal health experts, premier institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and more. The event was held on\u00a0<strong>21<sup>st<\/sup>and 22<sup>nd<\/sup>January 2025<\/strong>\u00a0at KaushalBhawan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the\u00a0<strong>BhagwanBirsa Munda Chair of Tribal Health and Hematology at AIIMS Delhi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The training program was inaugurated on 21st January by\u00a0<strong>Shri RoumuanPaite<\/strong>, Joint Secretary, MoTA, in the presence of distinguished guests, including\u00a0<strong>Prof (Dr)SaurabhVarshney<\/strong>, Director, AIIMS Deoghar&amp; AIIMS Patna, and\u00a0<strong>Prof (Dr)ManoranjanMahapatra<\/strong>, Head of the Hematology Department, AIIMS Delhi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Highlights of the Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Participants:<\/strong>\u00a0Over\u00a0<strong>200 doctors and healthcare professionals<\/strong>\u00a0from 17 states with a high prevalence of sickle cell anemia attended the training.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Topics Covered:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Management of sickle cell anemia.<\/li>\n<li>Genetic counselling techniques and their role in prevention.<\/li>\n<li>Latest advancements in treatment approaches.<\/li>\n<li>Strategies for awareness generation to reduce stigma associated with the disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expert Contributions:<\/strong>\u00a0Renowned subject matter experts from\u00a0<strong>AIIMS Delhi<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>ICMR<\/strong>, and other leading institutions conducted the sessions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patient-Centric Sessions:<\/strong>\u00a0The program also included discussions on patient experiences and perspectives to ensure holistic understanding and empathy-driven care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Objectives of the Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Build capacity among healthcare professionals to effectively diagnose, treat, and counsel individuals and families affected by sickle cell anemia.<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen efforts toward community awareness and stigma reduction.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate the adoption of innovative treatment approaches for improved patient outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This initiative underscores the Government of India\u2019s commitment to addressing the healthcare challenges of tribal communities, particularly the burden of sickle cell anemia.
