National Tribal Health Conclave 2025 under DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan – Advancing Holistic Healthcare for Tribal Communities<\/h2>\n

Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), had organised the National Tribal Health Conclave 2025, on 20th January 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This landmark event is a pivotal initiative under the\u00a0Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan<\/strong>, aimed at addressing the critical health and well-being challenges faced by India\u2019s tribal communities.<\/p>\n

Following the conclave, a\u00a0National Level Training of Trainers (ToT)<\/strong>\u00a0program on awareness generation and counseling for\u00a0Sickle Cell Anaemia<\/strong>\u00a0was conducted on\u00a0January 21\u201322, 2025<\/strong>, at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, as part of efforts to eliminate the disease by 2047.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s tribal communities often face unique healthcare challenges due to geographical isolation, socio-economic vulnerabilities, and deeply rooted cultural traditions. These factors contribute to significant disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, requiring specialized attention and solutions.<\/p>\n

In response to these challenges, the Government of India has undertaken several transformative steps. Among these is the launch of the\u00a0National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission<\/strong>\u00a0by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi targeting the eradication of sickle cell anaemia by 2047. Complementing this mission, the MoTA has introduced several initiatives under the DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan to ensure holistic health and well-being in tribal regions.<\/p>\n

Key Efforts and Initiatives in Tribal Healthcare:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MoTA, in collaboration with MoH&FW, AIIMS, and other stakeholders, has launched several initiatives:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Bhagwan Birsa Munda Chair of Tribal Health and Haematology<\/strong>: Established at AIIMS Delhi, this chair serves as a multi-disciplinary platform for research and data collection on tribal health.<\/li>\n
  • Centres of Competence (CoC)<\/strong>: 15 CoCs have been sanctioned in 14 states to enable advanced and prenatal diagnosis of sickle cell anemia, a prevalent genetic condition in tribal populations.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborative Approach<\/strong>: The MoTA is working closely with MoH&FW, MoAYUSH, MoWCD, NHM, AIIMSs, CoCs, ICMR, UN agencies, NGOs, and state tribal welfare departments to ensure effective healthcare delivery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The\u00a0National Tribal Health Conclave 2025<\/strong>\u00a0 brought together key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, AYUSH, Social Justice and Empowerment, senior state government officials, NHM representatives, AIIMS directors, tribal health experts, premier institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and more. The event has focused on identifying priority areas for policy intervention, action-oriented research, and course-correction initiatives to strengthen the tribal healthcare system.<\/p>\n

    Objectives of the Conclave:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Facilitate discussions to explore innovative healthcare delivery models for tribal regions.<\/li>\n
    2. Identify priority areas for policy interventions and research.<\/li>\n
    3. Develop culturally appropriate health strategies to enhance health-seeking behavior.<\/li>\n
    4. Strengthen healthcare systems through capacity building, community engagement, and monitoring mechanisms.<\/li>\n
    5. Create a comprehensive action plan to improve healthcare access and outcomes in tribal areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Inaugural Session Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The conclave was inaugurated by\u00a0Shri JualOram<\/strong>, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, with the presence of MoS (TA)\u00a0Shri DurgadasUikey<\/strong>, Secretary of Tribal Affairs\u00a0Shri Vibhu Nayar<\/strong>, and Director of AIIMS Delhi\u00a0Prof(Dr) M Srinivas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      More than 400 participants from across the country\u00a0 attended the conclave, including\u00a0Director of AIIMS Nagpur Prof (Dr)Prasant P Joshi<\/strong>;\u00a0Director of AIIMS Deogarh& AIIMS Patna Prof (Dr) SaurabhVarshney<\/strong>;Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar Prof (Dr)Ashutosh Biswas<\/strong>;\u00a0Director of AIIMS Guwahati Prof (Col) Ashok Puranik<\/strong>;Director of AIIMS Kalyani Prof (Dr)Ramjii<\/strong>, and\u00a0Shri T RoumuanPaite<\/strong>, Joint Secretary, MoTA.<\/p>\n

      Letters of Intent were exchanged between MoTA and AIIMS Delhi for adopting a tribal block in Odisha to conduct an etiological study, undertake field research on health conditions, and execute capacity-building programs.<\/p>\n

      • Disease-Specific Interventions<\/strong>: Targeting sickle cell disease, addiction, and mental health.<\/li>\n
      • Cultural Sensitivity<\/strong>: Balancing traditional lifestyles with improved health outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        National-Level Training of Trainers on Sickle Cell Awareness and Counselling Held at KaushalBhawan, New Delhi<\/strong><\/p>\n

        As part of the Government of India’s commitment to eliminate sickle cell anemia by 2047 under the\u00a0National Mission to Eliminate Sickle Cell Anaemia<\/strong>, the MoTA organized a\u00a0National-Level Training Programme on Awareness Generation and Counselling<\/strong>\u00a0for doctors and healthcare professionals. The event was held on\u00a021st<\/sup>and 22nd<\/sup>January 2025<\/strong>\u00a0at KaushalBhawan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the\u00a0BhagwanBirsa Munda Chair of Tribal Health and Hematology at AIIMS Delhi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        The training program was inaugurated on 21st January by\u00a0Shri RoumuanPaite<\/strong>, Joint Secretary, MoTA, in the presence of distinguished guests, including\u00a0Prof (Dr)SaurabhVarshney<\/strong>, Director, AIIMS Deoghar& AIIMS Patna, and\u00a0Prof (Dr)ManoranjanMahapatra<\/strong>, Head of the Hematology Department, AIIMS Delhi.<\/p>\n

              This initiative underscores the Government of India\u2019s commitment to addressing the healthcare challenges of tribal communities, particularly the burden of sickle cell anemia. By empowering healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and skills, the program aims to accelerate progress toward the goal of eliminating this genetic disorder and improving the quality of life for affected individuals and communities.<\/p>\n
