With support of\u00a0Department of Telecommunications (DoT),\u00a0Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI)\u00a0successfully hosted the\u00a0SA (Service and System Aspects) and CT (Core Network and Terminals)\u00a0Working Group meetings of the\u00a03rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)\u00a0from 9 to 13 February 2026 in Goa. The meetings brought together around\u00a0700 delegates from nearly 50 countries, highlighting India\u2019s growing role in shaping global telecommunications standards.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

TSDSI with the support from DoT, has been facilitating 3GPP meetings in India to enable domestic innovators, industry, academia and startups to participate directly in the development of international mobile communication standards. By reducing logistical and resource barriers, Indian stakeholders are able to contribute actively to defining standards for 5G-Advanced and emerging 6G technologies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The meetings included\u00a0SA#1 to SA#6 and CT#1, CT#3, and CT#4 Working Groups, focusing on ongoing work in 5G-Advanced and initiating technical studies for 6G under Release 20, laying the foundation for future specifications.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The technical discussions during the\u00a0meetings focused on advancing 5G-Advanced specifications, launching 6G study items, and defining standards for core network, terminals, service capabilities, and system architecture. These deliberations will guide future releases and ensure India\u2019s continued involvement in shaping next-generation mobile technologies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

About 3GPP:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a global collaboration of telecommunications standards organisations responsible for developing specifications for mobile communication systems, including 5G and future 6G technologies. Its work is organised under three Technical Specification Groups (TSGs): SA (Services and Systems Aspects), CT (Core Network and Terminals), and RAN (Radio Access Network), with multiple Working Groups developing detailed technical specifications.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The SA Working Groups standardise overall system architecture, service capabilities and security aspects, while the CT Working Groups focus on core network and terminal specifications, including user equipment interfaces, interworking with external networks, policy and charging control, and smart card applications.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
