MoU Signing Ceremony between CCRAS and Berhampur University to Digitize Rare Ayurvedic Manuscripts<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

In a landmark initiative to safeguard and promote India\u2019s medical heritage, the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, and Berhampur University, Odisha, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to digitize, catalogue, and publish rare Ayurvedic manuscripts and palm-leaf documents preserved at the South Odisha Cultural Study Centre (SOCSC).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The MoU signing ceremony will be held at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI),\u00a0Bhubaneswar, in the august presence of Prof. Geetanjali Das, Honourable Vice Chancellor,\u00a0Berhampur University, Prof. (Vaidya) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, New\u00a0Delhi and Prof. B.S. Prasad Former President, National Council for Indian System of\u00a0Medicine (NCISM). The collaboration will be led by the National Institute of Indian Medical\u00a0Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad, a peripheral unit of CCRAS.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Bridging Antiquity and Technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Berhampur University houses a distinguished collection of over 2,000 palm-leaf manuscripts,\u00a0much of which containing invaluable Ayurvedic knowledge and remains unpublished and\u00a0inaccessible to the wider scientific community. Through this partnership, CCRAS-NIIMH will\u00a0employ advanced digitization techniques to preserve these fragile documents for posterity.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Key Highlights of the Collaboration<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Comprehensive Digitization:\u00a0Rare Ayurvedic books, periodicals, and manuscripts will be\u00a0digitized, with digital copies provided to Berhampur University.\u00a0Descriptive Cataloguing: A detailed catalogue titled \u201cDescriptive Catalogue of Ayurveda\u00a0Manuscripts of SOCSC-BU, Odisha\u201d will be prepared, featuring 44 distinct data fields to aid\u00a0researchers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Global Accessibility:\u00a0The catalogue will be hosted on the AMAR Portal, enabling worldwide\u00a0access to metadata of these ancient texts.\u00a0Research &amp; Publication: Selected manuscripts will undergo transcription, transliteration and\u00a0translation into modern languages, integrating ancient wisdom into contemporary medical\u00a0discourse.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Institutional Commitment<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. (Vaidya) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, emphasized that this\u00a0initiative forms part of a national mission to document and validate India\u2019s traditional\u00a0knowledge systems. Prof. Geetanjali Das, Vice Chancellor of Berhampur University,\u00a0highlighted that the partnership not only safeguards the manuscripts\u2019 physical integrity but\u00a0also enhances the university\u2019s stature as a global hub for cultural and medical heritage\u00a0studies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Project Timeline and Ethics<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The MoU will initially span two years. Both institutions have pledged adherence to strict\u00a0confidentiality and intellectual property protocols, ensuring that the manuscripts remain\u00a0under the custodianship of Berhampur University while responsibly sharing their knowledge\u00a0with the public.\u00a0The programme is being coordinated by Dr. M.M. Rao, Director, CARI Bhubaneswar; Dr.\u00a0Sarada Ota, Assistant Director (Ayu.), CARI Bhubaneswar and Dr. Santosh Mane, Research\u00a0Officer (Ay), NIIMH Hyderabad, in the gracious presence of the Officers and Staff of CARI\u00a0Bhubaneswar along with officials and dignitaries of Berhampur University.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
