Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Highlights Major Expansion and Modernisation of India Post Network during Winter Session of Lok Sabha<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Union Minister of Communications and DoNER, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, today addressed the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session, outlining the significant strides made in strengthening and modernising India Post, the world\u2019s largest postal network.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Shri Scindia noted that India Post currently operates\u00a01.64 lakh Post Offices\u00a0across the country, supported by a dedicated workforce of\u00a02.78 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS). Acknowledging their invaluable service, the Union Minister said that the Gramin Dak Sevaks toil day and night not only to do business, but to convey emotion from one human being to the other.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Highlighting the transformation achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Minister stated that the Government has focused extensively on strengthening India Post over the last 11 years. Key achievements include:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • 4,903 new Post Offices\u00a0constructed in Left Wing Extremism-affected states in the last 3.5 years.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • 5,746 Post Offices sanctioned\u00a0in unbanked villages, of which\u00a05,657 (97%)\u00a0have already been opened.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • A total expansion of\u00a010,170 Post Offices\u00a0added to the national network over the past\u00a011 years.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Investment of\u00a0\u20b9405 crore\u00a0for the construction and renovation of Post Office buildings, including\u00a049 heritage Post Offices, regarded as institutional jewels of India Post.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Shri Scindia emphasised that while substantial progress has been achieved, additional funding will be required for renovating the remaining\u00a025,000 Post Offices\u00a0owned by India Post.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Moving towards the future, the Union Minister announced that India Post is undertaking a comprehensive\u00a0Business Process Re-engineering (BPR)\u00a0initiative to modernise and streamline operations. This will enhance the\u00a0first-mile, middle-mile, and last-mile delivery systems, making them faster, more service-oriented, and digitally enabled for crores of citizens.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    He further added that India Post is\u00a0bringing in automation and studying global best practices to emerge as one of the world\u2019s leading logistics carriers.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    The Government remains committed to strengthening the postal network, enhancing service delivery, and transforming India Post into a modern, technology-driven logistics powerhouse for the nation.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
