THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has commenced the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the 3rd Unit (250 MW) of the 1000 MW Tehri Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP), making it the largest PSP of its kind by a Central Public Sector Enterprise. Sh.Manohar Lal, Minister of Power,commenced the COD virtually from New Delhi today.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Manohar Lal said, \u201cToday, I officially commenced the Commercial Operation Date (COD) process of the 3rd Unit (250 MW) of the 1000 MW Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) at Tehri, Uttarakhand. This landmark achievement marks India\u2019s first Variable Speed PSP and strengthens our clean energy transition, supporting the Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister\u2019s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.\u201d He emphasized the critical role of PSPs in ensuring reliable power supply and grid stability, especially with rising renewable energy integration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Minister of State for Power, Sh. Shripad Y Naik, highlighted THDCIL\u2019s leadership in pumped storage and its contribution to India\u2019s energy security. Further Sh. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, also congratulated THDCIL for commissioning major projects this year.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Tehri PSP sets a benchmark in variable-speed technology and round-trip efficiency. This milestone reaffirms THDCIL\u2019s leadership in advanced hydropower and bolsters India\u2019s clean energy credentials globally.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
