The\u00a0National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, successfully concluded the\u00a0three-day National Level GI-Tagged Tribal Art Workshop & Exhibition \u2013 Cultural Extravaganza\u00a0today at IGNCA, New Delhi. Held from\u00a024\u201326 November 2025, the programme brought together\u00a0139 EMRS students,\u00a034 Art & Music teachers, and\u00a010 nationally recognised master artisans\u00a0from across the country.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative aimed to give tribal students hands-on exposure to India\u2019s\u00a0Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged tribal and traditional art forms, strengthening cultural pride, creativity, and vocational skills.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Day 1 Inaugural Ceremony Highlights<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The inaugural session opened with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The inaugural session highlighted the cultural depth and heritage value embedded in India\u2019s tribal art traditions.\u00a0Shri Ajeet Kumar Srivastava, Commissioner, NESTS, formally inaugurated the workshop.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Cultural presentations by EMRS students\u2014including Dhemsa Dance (Odisha), Jaunsari Dance (Uttarakhand), Mizo Folk Dance (Mizoram), vocal folk music (Dadra & Nagar Haveli), and a patriotic song (Madhya Pradesh)\u2014reflected the spirit of\u00a0Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat\u00a0and showcased India\u2019s vibrant tribal performing arts.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Hands-on Training in GI-Tagged Tribal Art Forms<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the workshop,\u00a0nationally recognised master artisans\u00a0conducted intensive live demonstrations and hands-on sessions, guiding students in traditional and GI-tagged art forms such as:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

  • Gond<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Warli<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Madhubani<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Kalamkari<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Pithora<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cheriyal<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Rogan Painting<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Bastar Dhokra<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Kachchhi Embroidery<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Pichwai<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Aipan<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Rangwali Pichhora<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Kangra, Basholi & Mysore art<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The artisans\u2019 mentorship helped students understand the cultural symbolism, traditional motifs, techniques, and philosophical depth behind each art form. This exposure aligns with\u00a0NEP 2020, which emphasises\u00a0skill-based, experiential, and art-integrated learning.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat in Action<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    The workshop brought EMRS students from different regions of India together\u2014ranging from the Northeast to Central India, Western India, the Himalayas, and Southern states.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Through:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • shared learning,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
    • cultural performances,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
    • collaborative art-making, and<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
    • interactive sessions with artisans,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      students developed a deeper sense of unity and cultural appreciation.<\/strong><\/span>
      \nThe event truly embodied the Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister\u2019s vision of\u00a0Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, strengthening emotional integration among India\u2019s tribal youth.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      Indigenous Knowledge Exchange for Tribal Mainstreaming<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      The programme served as a national platform for\u00a0indigenous knowledge exchange, enabling students to engage with:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • traditional artistic narratives,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
      • community-based symbolic patterns,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
      • regional folklore,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
      • and intergenerational wisdom preserved by master artisans.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        This culturally rooted learning model supports\u00a0tribal mainstreaming\u00a0by empowering students to celebrate their identity while enhancing their creative, academic, and vocational competencies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        Closing Day Exhibition & Valedictory Ceremony<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        On 26 November, a live exhibition of student-created artworks was opened to visitors. The display featured:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        • GI-tagged artworks produced during the workshop,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
        • demonstrations of GI relevance and processes,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
        • traditional artefacts crafted by artisans,<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
        • and curated student counters showcasing creativity and craftsmanship.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          173 paintings created and exhibited by these EMRS students were all sold. The exhibition was great success.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          The valedictory programme was graced by Ms Ranjana Chopra,\u00a0Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, as chief guest, who appreciated the students\u2019 dedication and encouraged them to utilise these skills for future livelihood opportunities along with focusing on their studies. Cultural performances by students from\u00a0Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Madhya Pradesh\u00a0added colour and vibrancy to the closing ceremony.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          Awards were conferred upon outstanding student artists and performers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          Public Engagement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          A live art workshop for visitors, open between 09:30 AM and 04:00 PM daily, promoted dialogue and awareness about GI-tagged crafts.<\/strong><\/span>
