INDIAN ARMY COMMEMORATES INFANTRY DAY – 79TH SHAURYA DIWAS<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Indian Army today commemorated\u00a0Infantry Day, also known as\u00a0Shaurya Diwas, with a solemn\u00a0Wreath Laying Ceremony\u00a0at the\u00a0National War Memorial, New Delhi, paying tribute to the valour, sacrifice and indomitable spirit of the Infantry.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, laid a wreath at the\u00a0Amar Chakra\u00a0of the National War Memorial, honouring the courage and supreme sacrifice of Infantry soldiers, who laid down their lives in the service of the Nation. The ceremony was attended by senior Army officers, serving personnel, veterans and families of the Bravehearts.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Three decorated war veterans,\u00a0Major Ashish Sonal, Vir Chakra (Retired), a veteran of\u00a0Operation PAWAN (1990);\u00a0Subedar Major & Honorary Captain Kunwar Singh, Vir Chakra (Retired), who took part in\u00a0Operation MEGHDOOT (1989); and\u00a0Lance Naik Amrit, Vir Chakra (Retired), a participant of\u00a0Operation CACTUS LILY (1971), also laid wreaths on behalf of Infantry veterans, reaffirming the enduring legacy of gallantry and selfless service.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the nationwide celebrations, several events were organised to mark this historic occasion. These included the\u00a0Field Marshal KM Cariappa Memorial Seminar\u00a0at Lucknow, the\u00a0Shauryaveer Run\u00a0and the\u00a0Felicitation of Veer Naris\u00a0at Delhi Cantonment. An\u00a0\u2018Infantry Magazine\u2019\u00a0highlighting the Infantry\u2019s multi-dimensional capability development and chronicling heroic sagas was also released on the sidelines of the event.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Observed on\u00a027 October every year, Infantry Day holds a\u00a0special place in the Nation\u2019s history. On this day in\u00a01947, Infantrymen of the Indian Army were the\u00a0first troops to land at Srinagar airport.\u00a0The subsequent operations by these troops are an act of extraordinary courage that repelled the Pakistan-backed tribal invasion and safeguarded India\u2019s territorial integrity. The occasion stands as a lasting reminder of the Infantry\u2019s steadfast dedication and unmatched valour in defending the Nation\u2019s sovereignty.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
