The Indian Navy\u2019s\u00a0indigenously\u00a0built Survey Vessel (Large),\u00a0Ikshak,<\/em>\u00a0is set to be commissioned at\u00a0Naval Base Kochi on 06 Nov 2025.\u00a0The ceremony will be presided over by\u00a0Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff,\u00a0marking the formal induction of the vessel.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As the third ship of her class,\u00a0Ikshak\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0induction underscores the Indian Navy\u2019s steadfast commitment to building advanced, state-of-the-art platforms furthering the momentum of capability enhancement and self-reliance \u2013\u00a0charting a new course in indigenous hydrographic excellence.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, Kolkata,\u00a0under the supervision of the Directorate of Ship Production and the Warship Overseeing Team (Kolkata),\u00a0Ikshak<\/em>\u00a0embodies\u00a0over 80% indigenous content.\u00a0The vessel stands as a testament to the successful collaboration between GRSE and Indian MSMEs, proudly reflecting the spirit and strength of\u00a0Aatmanirbhar Bharat<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond her primary role of hydrographic survey operations,\u00a0Ikshak<\/em>\u00a0is designed with\u00a0dual-role capability, serving as a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) platform, and as a Hospital Ship during emergencies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Notably,\u00a0Ikshak<\/em>\u00a0is also\u00a0the first SVL ship with dedicated accommodation for women,\u00a0reflecting the Indian Navy\u2019s inclusive and progressive approach towards a future-ready fleet.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The ship\u2019s name,\u00a0Ikshak<\/em>, meaning \u2018The Guide\u2019,\u00a0aptly symbolises her mission \u2013 to chart the unknown, ensure safe passage for mariners, and strengthen India\u2019s maritime power.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
